Hello!
Well, we taught Ryland this week and he has permission from his dad and now has a baptismal date of March 10!!! :) We are beyond excited for him to finally make that commitment to follow Jesus Christ!
We have tried numerous times to get a hold of the Webb family since we miraculously found their house, and her son told us to try by Thursday night. We took his word and ending up catching Sister Webb at the PERFECT time! We were invited in and talked to her for 3 hours.....she even missed her college class for her doctorate she is getting (one of the reasons she is so busy, on top of having a full time job and babysitting her niece). We talked to her about her experience with the church, and she told us a lot of concerns she had, but also the desire she had to resolve those concerns. She said her spirituality isn't where she wants it to be and she wants to change that! That's the best place to start! She graduates in June so she will still be super busy until then, but there is great hope for her family!!! :) her husband and kids aren't members of the church, and there is lots of potential for them! Sister Gotay should be here until then too!
We had a lesson with the Reichenbach family and we invited them (Kyle, especially being the only non-member in his family) to write down their questions and concerns on a paper we made, and seek for answers as they read the Book of Mormon together. We bore testimony of the truths we can learn as we actively seek God's hand in our concerns and questions and the role of the Holy Ghost in answering them. I watched carefully as he scribbled down a list that seemed to reach the bottom of the paper. It looks like he has a lot of learning to do! :)
We met this man named Milko while we were doing service at Goodwill. He is from Bulgaria and had many interesting ideas about things...He talked about Mitt Romney, he talked about Melchizedek from the Old Testament and thought he might be the new Jesus because he thought he came after Christ...and he talked for quite sometime about the "anunnaki" (a very technologically advanced alien race to put it in his own words....) haha but he had a Book of Mormon and he said he's start reading it again!
We met with a less active this week and before we left she asked if she could talk to me alone...odd, right? and slightly terrifying...so I went in the kitchen with her and she had concerns about the information we had on her family situation. She dumped all of the things that had happened, and told me she thought everyone knew her familie's troubles and was embarrassed to come to church because of it. I told her I knew nothing other than she was having marriage troubles and I saw relief quickly overcome her. It is amazing the influence others can have on us for better or for worse. I am grateful she trusted me enough to confide in me, and that she now feels at peace with coming to church with her family. Gossip can really hurt, don't do it.
This week God gave us a huge lesson on enduring to the end and the miracles that can come from it. We were so exhausted this past week and we kept going, kept trekking forward in the super cold weather. We would even sing "come come ye saints" help us stay focused. We saw so many miracles! We found more people who said we could come back and felt the joys of doing the Lord's work.
Something hit me in my scripture study this week as I was reading Moroni 7. It says " But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil;" (verse 17) Kind of an intense scripture, I know, BUT, those three words SERVE NOT GOD really hit home because Satan is the master of distraction. If he can't get us to do bad things, he'll get us to things that don't serve God instead, or in other words, just keep us busy. He encourages us to twist our priorities to put off the most important things that prepare us to meet God, i.e. to fulfill purpose here on this earth. Remember "all things which are good cometh of Christ; otherwise men were fallen, and there could no good thing come unto them." (Moroni 7:24) All good things in our lives are because of Him. What can we do to show our love? What priorities can we change?
Serving with a Smile,
Sister Bradley
